FAQs
Why are you called “Ginkgo Lens Photography”?
Ginkgo trees are a symbol of hope and longevity, thanks to their resilience throughout history! They thrive through time and seasons alike thanks to their hardiness, and much like photographs, they are a constant reflection of beauty in the world.
In a similar way, what we promise to provide you at Ginkgo Lens is a photoshoot that’s fun, beautiful and emotional– with finished images that will tell your story that moment for years to come.
Fun Fact: The yellow color palettes in our photos are directly inspired by ginkgo leaves during Autumn!
How much space does your traveling studio require?
We generally need a minimum of 5’ x 7’ tp set up our backdrop and lights, but we’ve also never had a problem fitting into smaller living spaces for clients. If furniture or decor needs to be moved to accommodate our setup, we’ll gladly help move things and reset it when we leave!
How far do you travel for photoshoots?
We’ll travel anywhere within 50 miles of Englishtown, NJ without a travel fee. Outside of that, it’s $25 for 60 miles, and an $5 additional per 10 miles after that.
For our Manhattan clients: due to the recent congestion fees, we suggest shooting in Brooklyn or New Jersey to avoid needing to cover that cost for us.
Could I do a lifestyle session if I have a smaller home?
Absolutely! We’ll work with you both ahead of time and on the day of the photoshoot to stage the room(s), to make sure even the smallest rentals look picture perfect!
Can I purchase a photoshoot for someone else?
Yes, you can! We sell gift certificates that you can email us to purchase. We offer both digital and physical copies.
Are dogs the only pets you photograph?
We love photographing of all types of pets! Cats, birds, and other small pets are better photographed at home, so our traveling studio is a perfect choice.
And for larger animals like horses and cows, we forgo the backdrop and work with your barn/stable.
What if my pet/child/husband doesn’t hold still for photos?
Not to worry! Our photography style typically involves high quality studio lights, whether the session is outdoors or indoors. Not only does this let us sculpt the scene in a painterly style, but we also capture energetic subjects effortlessly!
Do you have an option to buy only prints, and not digital images?
Every package includes digitals, but some include print credits as well. We don’t have any print only packages, because we believe in today’s world having the digital is a much better value. This way, you can share your photos on social media, emails, or text - and if you’d like prints you can either order high quality, professional ones directly from your gallery, or take them to a CVS or Walmart!
(fyi, we recommend Walmart over CVS if you’re going that route)
What if I want professional photos, but your packages are out of my budget right now?
Then you’re a perfect candidate for a Mini Session! We offer these smaller packages a few times a year, and usually stylized around the season or a particular theme. They are shorter time slots at a location of our choosing and they book up fast, so we recommend joining our Newsletter to find out about them first.
Will Arielle or Alex be taking my photos?
That depends on several factors - such as what type of shoot it is, what date/time the shoot is, and any specific client requests. While we try to do most of our photoshoots together (so that whoever isn’t operating the camera can assist with gear and kids/pets), not every shoot will have both of us.
Fortunately we both have easygoing personalities, and similar tastes for art and design. So you’ll always be in good hands with us!
Could I request a specific photographer?
If there are certain photos on our website that you love, you can share that with us and we’ll try to match you with the photographer who took your favorites. However as mentioned before, our shooting and editing styles are very similar!
So, like, are you guys married?
Yes, we are! We’ve been together since March 2020 (if you know, you know). While we’ve both worked separately as photographers and in the film/TV industry, it became increasingly clear that we worked even better as a team as our business styles complement each other beautifully.
Can I opt out of having my photos shared online or on your website?
Definitely - just let us know that when you book with us. We have no issues at all with not sharing people’s photos, and would never want to make you feel uncomfortable!
Do you photograph surprise proposals?
YES! Proposals fit into our Couples or Family packages, for any tier above Acorn. We prefer to plan a phone call or meeting with the partner/family to ensure we’re all on the same page and fully out of the way during the big moment, and we’ll also get some quick posed photos and ring close-ups before we go!
Do you photograph weddings, quinceañeras, or bar/bat mitzvahs?
No, we do not cover any events featuring ceremonies.
Do you do videography, or small social media videos?
No, we do not personally offer any video-based packages or add-ons.
